Out of the Barn and Back to Life

Restoration of 'Wilbur', a very early style 1.5 National Tricone.

Hello Friends.... Here I tell the story of Wilbur, a very early style 1.5 (note the wiggle border engraving) National Tricone. Wilbur spent the last 45 years stored in an Indiana Barn! Ouch, not any kind of life for a musical instrument now, is it? Wilbur came to me covered in a green coating of some nature, filled w the typical huge mouse sized dust balls, and needing some major TLC. Fortunately, he cleaned up nicely, the cones turned out to be in excellent shape. Note the green felt and gobs of glue under the cones. Guess someone had an idea of how to get rid of a rattle. I of course clean all that goop out of there and start fresh w a clean pan. Really just needed a good cleaning, setup, some new National tuners, and he's ready to rumble yet again after 45 years of silence. Hail Wilbur, he's risen from the dead like a Phoenix! He's got plenty to say and he's had to wait 45 years to be heard!

Note, Wilbur was sold before I even got started, so this is for fun only!

The End, which in this case, is only the beginning! Another soldier patched up and ready to re-join the battle. Wilbur is ready for another 75 years! Go Wilbur!!!
